The Machine Intelligence Research Institute (MIRI) is a nonprofit with a very ambitious goal: to ensure that good things happen—rather than bad things (which is the likely default outcome)—when machines surpass human levels of intelligence. We have a great team (and network of remote workers) that does a great deal with the resources we have, but we’re always short on people and time. This is where you, our volunteers, come in. Every month there are hundreds of hours of work that we simply can’t get to without your help. We can’t promise that it will be all be fascinating or glamorous work—some of it is decidedly mundane—but if you are a dedicated volunteer, over time, you can make a big impact.
